Don’t let someone’s social media profile fool you.

You know the type: perfectly coifed hair, baby endangered creature in their arm, perched atop an Italian car parked in front of a marble mansion, embarking on their next exotic vacation via a private jet… Hashtag hustle and hashtag grind and hashtag laptop lifestyle.

Or how about this one:

The cup of herbal tea poised perfectly by the journal filled with life goals, kids neatly playing in the background, every hair in place, everything posed and perfect and neat and clean… hashtag follow your heart and hashtag work from home.

Regardless of the lifestyle you have or aspire to have, don’t get caught up in someone’s online representation of what their life is like.

It’s fleeting.

And it’s fake.

What’s worse is these people position themselves as experts that can help YOU live this lifestyle too in just minutes per week… for 3 easy payments of a number that ends in 7.

Sometimes I meet these people. And, shocker, that’s not actually what their life is like. They work exorbitant hours. They have toxic relationships with loved ones. Their finances or fitness are a mess. They might be represented well in 1 area but severely lacking in all the others.

From my point of view there are 6 areas of life to focus on. And, like those video games where you get a finite number of skill points you can’t be a “10” in every area.

In no specific order:

  • Faith. Your spiritual health; serving your community.
  • Family. Relational health of those nearest to you.
  • Fitness. Sound body and mind.
  • Finances. An ability to create and steward wealth.
  • Fun. Laughing and playing instead of working 24/7.
  • Friendships. Meaningful relational depth and experiences.

Petting a baby giraffe on a private jet will get you a 10 on the finance side (or at least make you appear wealthy) but might come at the expense of the other areas.

Be careful who you look up to online. If it looks too good to be true it probably is.
